Hurricanes can be disastrous. It is one of the most common recurring natural disasters in the United States and worldwide. Earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, power outages, fires and many other natural disasters can happen, but hurricanes are one of the most prolific natural disasters we have to deal with. I personally have been through hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and power outages and know first hand how important it is to have a portable power generator for home.
I am going to focus on hurricane preparedness because it is the one I have received the most questions about.
Hurricane preparedness means having a reliable backup generator as hurricanes can cause power outages. You may be forced to leave your home and look for a shelter. Things may worsen if you don’t have emergency power.
There are hundreds of generators out there. I personally DO NOT recommend gas, diesel or any other liquid fuel. During power outages those fuels are very hard to get, they don’t store for long periods of time well, and that means that there are many moving parts in the generator which means maintenance and potential problems. And don’t get me started on wind generators, that’ll be a whole other discussion. The short answer though: don’t go with wind power.
A solar generator is by far the best way to go. But which solar generator is best for hurricanes and other power outage scenarios?
The Kodiak Solar Generator is a life-changing generator that wins over other types of generators powered by gas, wind or diesel. This prominent generator only needs solar to operate. You won’t need to waste your valuable time walking to the nearest fueling center to purchase fuels. It utilizes free energy from the sun.
Though this generator is small in size, it is versatile because it’s powerful and yet portable. Virtually no noise comes from this generator except a small cooling fan that’s extremely quite. To add on that, this generator is very effective and reliable because it is fitted with a powerful yet lightweight lithium ion battery.
Importance of Backup Power
Emergencies caused by disasters such as earthquakes, floods or even terrorism can leave you in total darkness and disconnected from the rest of the world. When the grid is gone, your communication tower is likely to follow suit in a wide-scale disaster. You can’t call! You can’t watch TV! You can’t listen to the radio! All you can do is feel vulnerable and helpless. But wait a minute, what about if you had a portable solar powered generator like Kodiak Solar Generator?
It is that one device that will put you one step ahead of emergencies when there is power shortage. You can charge your phone and receive news from your radio or TV, power fridges and freezers, run fans and lights and so on.
During emergencies, the Kodiak Solar Generator can be the biggest life saver. It can help you communicate to make ensure your family or friends are safe and secure. Back in 2017 Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico extremely hard. Over 3,000 people died and the power was out for 11 months.Almost an entire year!
Fortunately many people were wise enough to prepare for the storm before it happened with power from a solar kit. Whether is was a Silver, Gold or Platinum kit, every single one of the people that got a kit had power for that year! I don’t know of a better testament to how well the kits work than that!
More importantly, these generators keep your power need minimal and charging your mobile devices. You keep your communication devices like mobile phones or landline phone powered. In case of anything, you can communicate with your family and friends for assistance. You don’t lose food in the fridge and you can see what you’re doing at night without the need of candles (fire hazard).
Moreover, there are critical medical devices that should be maintained. For instance, CPAPs are used in treating sleep apnea and many other sleeping disorders. The Kodiak can run a CPAP for days without a charge. You can see clearly that without sufficient power supply, things can be dangerous.
With Kodiak Solar Generator, you’ll have peace of mind. It’ll provide amazing power during hurricanes. Since they are portable at only 20lbs, they are easy to carry. Even better, they are ready when you need them plus they can power anything. The Kodiak will hold it’s charge for a year without much issue so there’s no need to recharge it all the time for emergencies.
Though the market has many generators, most of them use physical fuels. Solar-powered generators are free from fossil fuel hence environment-friendly. It means it not only protect your family but also conserve the environment. Regardless of that, with the BnD Flex panels the Kodiak can even get charged on cloudy days.
Solar Backup is Reliable
Solar backup utilizes the solar power which is reliable,100% renewable and entirely free. In case of emergencies, you can power your devices or equipment immediately and save yourself.
Diesel/gas generators don’t store energy. They only convert the diesel into electric current when you ignite it. To keep the power supply on, you need to refuel your generator with diesel regularly. Once the source of diesel has depleted, you will remain stuck.
Solar Backup is Silent
Solar backups produce no noise. For example, when you are hit with a disaster, you can power your devices without being noticed. On the other hand, when you start your diesel generators, your neighbor knows that you’ve started a generator. They are very loud because they require combustion to function.
I met a man at a preparedness show once who lived back east where they had serious winter storms consistently almost every year. They had a gas generator and kept lots of fuel in stock and regularly maintained his generator so it would work when he needed it.
A big storm came through as anticipated so he went and turned on his generator and all was well. The next morning he woke up and heard his generator still running which was great, until he tried to flip on the light switch. For some reason even though he could hear his generator running his lights didn’t work.
He went outside to go see and found that the chain had been cut off his gas generator and his lawn mower had been pulled out of his storage shed and was idling/running where the generator previously sat. His entire neighborhood got all of their generators stolen in one night!
That’s is why it is so helpful to have a silent and fume free generator when it comes to security and power.
Toxic Exhaust and Emissions
Solar generators don’t produce toxic exhaust and emissions. You can even operate it in your hiding place or even the kitchen counter with no harm.
For emergency power, you won’t suffocate.
When diesel or gas burns, it emits hazardous gases like carbon monoxide and carbon Di-Oxide (CO2). This brings out the reason why you are advised to run your generator outside your house. If its noise doesn’t make you crazy, then the toxic emissions and gases will take you to the grave.
At another preparedness show I went to I met another person who knew a family that passed away from their generator. A storm came in and knocked out the power so they ran their gas generator. They didn’t want anything to happen to it like being stolen so they decided to run it in the garage with the garage window cracked. Even doing that the toxic fumes went inside their house and sadly they all passed away that night. How tragic.
Solar Kits Require Less Maintenance and Repair
Solar backups require less repair and maintenance because they don’t have moving parts. There is low possibility that during emergencies it will fail to function. Diesel and gas backups have moving parts which are prone to wear and tear. You’ll need to repair these parts regularly. This means that they may fail during emergencies. Repairing this parts frequently is an added cost and will drain your hard-earned money from your pocket.
Another point is that many people will buy larger generators to power their house better such as 5,000 or even 8,000 watt generators. Some have realized that those are extremely difficult to crank and turn on, leaving them without power because they simply can’t get the generator started.
Solar over Wind
Solar backups utilize solar energy, and they can store a lot of power for long. Solar is mostly predicable since the sun will rise and set every single
day. In case you require emergency power, these generators will offer you sufficient power.
For wind backups, wind does not always blow. You need to find areas where the wind is reliable. This will force you to waste time searching for the best place to install them. What if there was an emergency that required immediate action? The worst can happen! Moving to that area will also require you to spend money, which is an added cost.
A wind generator can be added to the Kodiak if absolutely necessary but still I don’t believe it’s worth the investment. I have met/talked with dozens of people who have wind turbines and 100% of them said they were useless and creating next to no power.
Solar Generator Kit – No Installation Required
The Solar Generator Kits on my website are 100% complete with nothing else needing to be purchased in order to make them work. They are fail proof as far as setup and connecting goes. You don’t need to hard wire them into the house or anything. You simply take out your solar generator, cables and panels and connect them. That’s it, you’re done!
The BnD Flex solar panels are so efficient and high quality that they can even lay flat on the ground and produce plenty of power.
Solar Backup Fits Anywhere
It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to run the essentials of a house, and entire RV, a tiny home, a camping tent or just your car. The Solar Generator Kits will fit practically anywhere.
Since the Kodiak is only 20lbs, and each BnD Flex panel is only 4lbs each, they will go anywhere with you and store easily in a closet, trunk, under the bed or wherever.
Solar Backup Has Expandable Power
The Kodiak has an awesome function that allows it to use external batteries along with the internal lithium ion battery. This means that the “fuel tank” can essentially be expanded to fit your needs. Whether you just need to run some small items or power half your house, you can add more batteries to amount of power requirement you have.
You still can only put a maximum of 30 amps (roughly 600watts) of solar panels connected to the Kodiak but that is still enough to charge multiple batteries in a single day.
Solar Back Up Costs Less Over Time
The hardest part about getting the Kodiak Solar Generator kits is the up front cost. With a gas generator it only costs a few hundred dollars plus gas and maintenance parts, not a ginormous investment. However, because the gas and diesel generators are essentially engines, they will eventually stop working, which means more purchasing.
The Kodiak lasts for years on end. The battery alone can be cycled 2,000 times. A cycle is going from 100% charge, to 20% charge back up to 100%charge. So if a Kodiak battery was cycled once per day it would last 5.5 years before it reached a lower efficiency. At that point it’s still usable, it just doesn’t work as well as it did at cycle 1 now that it’s at 2,000 cycles. The point is it would be extremely rare the case in which you would need to cycle it for 5.5 years none stop. In reality,it would easily last 10+ years without ever needing replacement.
Kodiak Solar Generator
The Kodiak Solar Generator is the best solar generator at this time for emergency power because of all its unique features. One of the unique features is its compact and lightweight design. It weighs only 20lbs meaning that you can carry it easily from one area to another. Also, it is a powerful generator that has a lithium-ion battery that can hold 1100W.
Even better, it has a fast charge time of 1.8 hours with 5 BnD Flex 100 panels. For added power, the generator produces an output power of 110V. Better, the higher inverter peak of 3000 and continuous rating of 1500watts makes it a great backup power during hurricanes. It has many connections to be used to ensure all the items you need to power have a spot to plug in.
Portable solar powered generator for home is a great option for a clean and reliable source of energy. They are the best alternative source of energy when there is a power outage. Better yet, solar powered generators are a cheap source of power that you can use to run most of your home appliances and significantly reduce problems during emergencies.
